Visual Poetry
As an emerging multimedia artist, I thrive on pushing the boundaries of materials and styles within my projects, embracing risks as an integral part of my creative process. My artistic endeavors are predominantly conceptual. I think of my art as visual poetry because my creative process begins by exploring personal and collective emotions around life's greatest joys and challenges. I often write a poem before creating a visual artwork because the creative writing process helps me make artistic choices about material, style, color, and texture. My work endeavors to give form to the unspoken. The phenomenon known as a "loud silence" is felt when words go unspoken, and that lack of verbalization weighs heavily on the human spirit. I create visual narratives that honor the weight of these unexpressed sentiments, which burden the human spirit. In my artistic practice, I seek to explore what myself or the larger society is unwilling or unable to engage with to promote constructive dialogue for social change and personal growth. Through creating art, I've discovered a pathway to courage, hope, and acceptance. I hope my work inspires others to create and bravely engage in underexplored themes.
